Three Things To Ask Yourself When Meeting The Perfect Wedding Photographer
Looking for an amazing wedding photographer? There are a lot of personalities out there! From the over-the-top extroverts to delicate flowers who aren’t able to direct group wedding photos – we all know someone who wasn’t happy with their chosen photographer.
There are so many choices for wedding photography in Kent and across London, Essex, and Surrey, so you need to make sure not only that your photographer is reliable and skilled, but also that they are the right fit for you… As we’ve mentioned many time before – your wedding photographer is the person you spend more time with on your wedding day than your bride/groom! Not to mention they may end up helping you to plan your wedding more than anyone else!
Did they listen?
It’s important that you get on with your photographer on a personal level. They should have the appropriate professionalism and skill to justify their role at your wedding – but they should also be fun to be around! Were they interested in you as people – not just as clients? Were you talked down to and treated to never-ending stories of which venues they have worked at and who they have met? This is a sure-tale sign that they might be more interested in themselves than in you…
Do we feel comfortable with him/her?
You hire a wedding photographer to capture the story of possibly the most special day in your life, and so it’s important that they can make you feel at ease. Your wedding photographer should be able to do that both because of their professionalism, and also because of their personality. If you’re the kind of person that doesn’t like having your photo taken, then it’s really important that you feel relaxed and comfortable with the person you are hiring to do exactly that! If not then it will show, and no matter how good a photographer they are – your images won’t be amazing…
Does the Photographer Shoot and Show ‘Real Couples’ Like Us?
When you look through their work – are you looking at ‘real couples’ that you can identify with? Are there couples of all ages and backgrounds? It’s important that they have a consistent style that they can reproduce with any couple in any location (check out the fourth factor in our ‘5 crucial factors when deciding upon a wedding photographer’) and that they can work with a couple like yourselves.
Also make sure to scrutinise the pictures in their portfolio and ensure they aren’t all just ‘models’ or ‘training day’ photos (a tell-tale sign of a ‘faux-tographer’) because any photographer can make models look good, or have a mentor pose them and set the lighting up for them, but only a true professional can create these sorts of images at real weddings.
