Pre-Wedding and Engagement photography in Rome is always magical, and we were lucky enough to shoot the Rome engagement photos for Sara & Claudio this Spring. We’ve shot engagement photos and wedding photos in Italy many times and it was another extremely fun challenge for us as wedding photographers to capture the love of Sara & Claudio. As we’ve mentioned before, Italy is full to the brim with beautiful and stunning photo locations and opportunities.
The choices for wedding and pre-wedding photos in Rome are endless: from The Lungotevere to the Spanish Steps, and from the Pantheon to the Colosseum we were spoilt for choices as usual! Please see below a selection of photos from their pre-wedding photography session. Enjoy!
Having Your Pre-Wedding & Engagement Photos Taken In Rome
Sara & Claudio live in Rome so they knew all the famous locations – but had no clue how or where to take fabulous engagement photos. We spoke with Sara & Claudio at length, discussed what they were looking for, and gave them lots of tips & tricks on what to wear, what to expect, and brilliant places in Rome to shoot, we also suggested they read our reviews so they knew exactly what they wanted from their engagement session!
As our clients and avid readers of our articles will know, the best photo opportunities happen super-early in the morning! Unfortunately day-time shoots in hot and sunny countries like Italy can make for difficult lighting conditions – but more importantly famous cities like Rome are always full of tourists – and it’s really important to get to the best spots whilst the Americans and Japanese are still in bed (and not spoiling your lovely photos!).
Where to take engagement photos in Rome?
Castel Sant Angelo
We started super early at the Castel Sant Angelo, arriving just before sunrise. Even at this time in the morning we were struggling with tourists! Nonetheless we captured a beautiful sunrise and quickly Sara & Claudio’s nerves began to disappear as they saw how much fun we could have!
Lungotevere & The Vatican
Then we walked along some of Rome’s famous bridges toward the Vaticano for some more fun photos. Already the sun was very strong at this point, and after a run-in with the Carabinieri (who clearly didn’t care much about a young couple in love) we moved along to the Spanish Steps.
Piazza di Spagna / The Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps are a staple tourist point in Rome, and we grabbed a taxi to get there as soon as possible after our first two locations. We were lucky in that the tourist crowds here were still quite light – and despite a German family who rather enjoyed following us and walking into our shots (swiftly moved along by some clever negotiation on Claudio’s part!) we finished with some wonderful imagery in one of Rome’s most photogenic spots.
After the photos were done and the tourist crowds appeared on mass, we retired for a cappuccino and a croissant in one of the wonderful Cafes you find in Rome, and many thanks to Sara & Claudio for paying the bill! (Truly appreciated!)
“Fantastico Mykey! These pictures are so wonderful, we love them! We can’t wait until the proper wedding photos arrive, sure they will be magical also!” Sara & Claudio
